This map details the official International driving licence requirements by country, these rules normally apply to all nationalities. Not all countries will ask for your IDP, or enforce its requirement, however technically it may be legally required and in some circumstances not having one can cause complications in the event you have an insurance claim. Our advice is, they are cheap, easy to get hold of, so you might as well get one whether you think you will need it or not. Note there are three Types 1926, 1949 & 1968 version, the 1949 version is used in most countries.
Note the 1926 or 1968 Version is not accepted in Thailand, if you do not have the 1949 version you will need to obtain a Thai driving licence on entry.
Note* The requirements are for those who hold a photographic driving licence from their home country. Those who do not have photographic driving are recommended to obtain an IDP for travel.
